r u n by Colleen Milburn

The word ‘run’ is a very evocative one for me. In 1995 I was assaulted by a stranger, one night right out of the blue. No warning. Bam. Aside from the many ramifications, for a long time after, all I wanted to do was run. Not in the ’let’s go for a run’ sense, but to run away, to escape from my life, from everything, from everyone. To move to a new place a long way from home and just be alone, where nobody knew me or anything about me, where I would be a stranger. It was so tempting. Then one morning I woke up and it wasn’t the first thing I thought about.

Photo composite & digital work. Images taken with Motorola V9 mobile phone camera and edited in Photoshop CS4. A source list of brushes I use in my work is on my profile page.

I am an Australian photographer and digital artist.

I can’t even begin to imagine how awful that was to go through my friend. I can relate to wanting to run though, and it’s isolating and horrible all at once. I can relate to this piece so closely Colleen. I am glad to hear you are moving forward, keep heading in that direction my friend :)

  • Oh, you’ve had your fair share of ‘stuff’, I know. I will indeed keep moving forward, and you too, my dear friend – thank you xox
