The Dai Butsu (“big Buddha”) of Kamakura is the second largest Buddha statue in Japan. The temple sheltering it was washed away by a tsunami centuries ago, and it’s been left in the open air ever since, to my delight as it would otherwise not be possible to see it so well. It is incredibly beautiful in the late afternoon light.
