This Soldier had been up for over 36 hours on a training mission (most of it was just waiting for his crew to fire on a range). I found him hiding in a ditch trying to sleep. I just took the photo and let him be.
am retired Navy and aboard many aircraft carriers, they work us day and night like dawgs. i remember when i was (much) younger i would grab sleep every and when ever i could. i still have that ability to this day, though it was ingrained into my mind and body decades ago. thanks for the memories and to also let the world see deployments and training exercises are NOT holidays! excellent message!
Finally, someone gets it!!!! Even most of the commanders I know don’t get it or don’t like this photo because it doesn’t show the “HOAH” stuff that they like to show to everyone. Most of the civilians I know don’t know the true hardships the we (all service members) go through (and I don’t mean just the deployments). The things I like about this photo are the memories it brings and the feeling I get when I see it. Thank you for “getting it”.

Well seen and captured … what a place to catch some sleep!
If you know Soldiers, they can sleep just about ANYWHERE.
