Dancing in the Dark by

Acrylic paint on board

I’ve been experimenting with different painting techniques and also playing with the colour red. This painting has a few layers of paint. As I built up the layers, I masked some parts with masking tape, before applying the next layer of paint. I also scratched into the surface to bring out the underlying colours. All the colours have some red in them. When I got to this stage I decided to stop, though I’m not convinced it is finished yet. To me it reminds me of primitive figures dancing in the dark by a fire – hence the title. I’m considering painting faces and feet on them, but am not quite sure yet.

beautiful ribbons of colour .. almost like scratching cat claws .. and yet, so much more passionate and warm ..

  • Thankyou for commenting! I’m finding myself really drawn to warm colours lately – its kinda new and weird cause I am usually into cool colours…… its good to change though I think =)

This looks fantastic, great work C. love the way you have captured the energy of dance, without trying to paint someone dancing. sweet as…. or should that be sweat.

O and I forgot to add, I think adding a figurative element would not help. but what would I know.

  • You’re funny! I painted a lot of this outside on a hot sunny day, so sweat is probably accurate =)
Thanks for the advise too, I think you could be right….. for once =)))
