Comments: White tiger at the aquarium in Houston. This is why I do not like seeing animals in zoos or cages. Wouldn’t you be bored if you were a jungle animal and you were put in a cage like this? They are beautiful, but I would prefer they were free.

such a beautiful animal – its a shame that we cage them all up just for our enjoyment…lets let them all loose!
Charles Dobbs ...
Hi Heather! I agree…let’s set them all free! These appeared to be in good health and the area they were in was very clean. I have certainly seen worse. I guess you could look at it another way in that we have the opportunity to see such beautiful animals. But that is not my belief. I don’t even like my dog having to sit in a cage at the groomer!

Love these big cats, I want one for a pet!!, I’ve had the flu for the past month and this looks how i feel. I relate to this cat!. Gee, aren’t they amazing!?.
Gregoryno6
How large was the enclosure, Charles, and was it all tiled? Seems strange to me to put a large animal in that environment.
Halima Mitchell
Ooooooooooooooo. My mother loves tigers. I have to show this to her. Nice one. :)
Jeffrey Phillips
i agree its a shame, but without adequate protection unfortunately most free tigers end up as dodgy medicine or floor rugs. which is an even bigger shame.
Jeff Burns
Sweet capture. Love the stare that the Tiger is giving

I agree such beautiful animals should be left to roam free and not caged. How about we get the people that capture these creatures and cage them then they can see for themselves what it’s like.
It’s a beautiful shot too btw. He dose looke very bored.
Adela Hriscu
Such a beautiful creature, pitty indeed to stay in a cage!

Wow – beautiful image Charles and as you rightly say, its so sad to see wild animals caged. As for setting them all free – most would die if released as they have no knowledge of the forest and how to hunt etc. Education is the way forward to protecting all wild animals in the wild and also working with third world countries to promote alternative livelihood options for hunters and their families.

Beautiful Tiger. His eyes do look sad, or at least very bored.
One thing people in the western world have to remember is that zoos do more than just entertain us. Zoos also act as a haven for species that are in danger of extinction. I saw a program on TV about the Hiacinth Macaw Parrot. There are more of them in zoos than there are in the wild because poachers in their native lands have hunted them to the brink of extinction. Unless people in the Third World countries where many of these animal reside get their act together Zoos may be the only place where these animals can be protected.
But zoos also need to do their part by making the animals they protect more comfortable by providing a more realistic habitat for them so that they can return to their natural behavior.

very nice image.. gorgeous tiger

Lucindawind
oh how I love these cats ! beautiful !
LoreLeft27
this is awesome but if you let them go who is going to protect them from other tigers that can kill it i was watching a special on tv and they had to train big cats that was human raised and train them to hunt and take care of themselves i wish they could be free too but they cant be taken care of if a poacher kills em
LoreLeft27
i do not trust other people who may be greedy i would keep the animal myself than to let it end up on someones back

I agree…...set them loose…...they are too beautiful and too wild to be caged up…...and cage up the people who endangering them. Gorgeous creature…...I am not surprised he is bored…...on the other hand…..I am not going in to ask if he wants to play a game :o)

This is awesome.
Margot Kiesskalt
Great capture, Charles. I also would prefer they were free (if, that is, we could guarantee their safety from hunters and habitat-destroyers in the wild).
Elizabeth Aust...
He is a most magnificent creature, lovely capture – however, I agree wholeheartedly, he should not be on show in a zoo. There must be another way to ensure animals’ future. I can’t visit a zoo because I always start crying and feel as though my heart is breaking.
kcranmer
Beautiful capture Charles, I adore white tigers!
BarbBarcikKeith
I agree that it would be nice if he could be free but most of the animals in American Zoos are captive born. It is illegal to take any creatures from the wild anymore (that doesn’t stop OTHER countries from doing it) Most are hand reared and are human imprinted. To set such an animal free would be a disservice to them..
narrowpathphoto
gorgeous creature
CathyJones
wonderful photo of the white tiger! You really got a clear shot of him at the Aquarium! Great job.

Great capture, I don’t think that I would want to be the one to go in and break his boredom though (if you know what I mean)

AWWWW! he needs a few big cat toys and a playmate! beautiful animal and shot!

our ‘local’ zoo is Marwell which is a preservation zoo. They aim to breed and keep extinction at bay. It’s a shame to see wild animals not getting what they really need but we need to keep them going too.
At least in places like Marwell we get to learn and appreciate the creatures and help keep the wild ones going too.
Beautiful capture
lisa9
so pretty up close
Elenne Boothe
Hi Charles, this is a beautiful picture of him, and I to visit the zoo from time to time
and it truly hurts me to see these beautiful animals lock up.
the look in their eyes let’s one know they want to be free. but some don’t know about the wild because they was raise in the zoo or a cage.
again bwautiful shot.
MarissaBillings
this is absolutely beautiful!! well done!
Rosalie Scanlon
What a beautiful animal. I agree, they should be free, or have a larger, more natural enclosure. wonderful photo.

So, gorgeous!

A beautiful image of such a sad looking animal. I agree with you about zoos but sometimes it is a way to share the beauty of these magnificent animals with people that can’t see them elsewhere! So many good zoos out there doing great things to maintain animals existence unfortunately there are still a few who aren’t!
Terri~Lynn Bealle
I agree, they are so majestically beautiful and amazing, and believe they should all be free in their own environment and natural settings! Great image, and thanks for your input!!! I love tigers, that is one reason my nickname growing up was, “Terri the Tiger” shhhh…. don’t tell anybody, lol. But really, they are such awesome animals, and should not be caged. (or held in the circus, etc…) I prefer humanity and animal rights, over money.
Mark Peterson
Beautiful animal!

It is very sad I agree but honestly, the White tiger is a color faze of the Bangle tiger, they are very rare in the wild because they don’t make it, the mother will most of the time kill them because she knows they won’t make it. The White tigers we see today in the zoos are all man breed. They come from the genes of one male white tiger that was captured in the 1950s. One of the sadest things is to have a animal like this that never will be free.

THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL CREATURE. YOU ARE RIGHT, IT IS A SHAME THAT HE IS KEPT IN A CONCRETE CAGE. I WAS BORN IN PASADENA AND WHEN I WAS A KID, WE USED TO GO TO PASADENA PARK AND ZOO NOT FAR FROM MY GRANDPARENTS HOUSE ON JACKSON ST. I WAS 6 WHEN WE MOVED TO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, WAY BACK IN 1958. CREATURES LIKE THIS DESERVE TO BE PROTECTED, BUT NOT ON CONCRETE, HE NEEDS GREEN FIELDS AND TALL GRASS. NICE IMAGE, AND YOU CAN TELL HE ISN’T HAPPY. BOB :)

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww i feel like that sometimes too :(
