Unexpected Beauty

The Urban EnvironmentIt is dirty and dark in the factory where I work, rubbish accumulates in corners. No matter how often someone is assigned the task of cleaning the car park and driveway, the wind always undoes their work. McDonald’s wrappers collect in wire fencing, plastic packaging lies in twisted tangles and cardboard soaked into a sodden mess blends in with the cement.
Out the front, there are never enough car parks, and cigarette butts litter the sidewalk where the smokers are forced to congregate by law.
But sometimes, there is a glimpse of unexpected beauty . . . a splash of yellow in the corner of a cracked concrete garden bed . Nature creeps, unbidden into the industrial, urban landscape.
I managed to capture these “weeds” with my Sony Ericsson camera phone before they were removed.
