Suffocation - oil pastel on paper drawing by

Oil pastel on paper.

Use the large view to see texture created by scratching the surface with a serrated knife.

I wanted this work to ooze anger and emotion, to express childlike fear. When I see it I can smell crayons and feel the waxyness of the medium on my fingertips.

Lovely work Celia, have you ever tried soft pastels instead of oil? I much prefer them.

Thanks for your comment Tom, I recently started using both soft and oil pastels again and enjoy both. In fact the “eye” in both my ofther works “Contemplation” and “Suspicion” are soft pastel on canvas.

I do like that you can layer oil pastels and then scrape them back to reveal the colour underneath -something I plan on playing a bit more with in the future.

Stunning work. The colors really express through this emotive piece.
