Torn between the muses by CDCcreative

Posted on March 14, 2011

The muses call to me, pulling my attention between them. As a part time artist / full-time worker it pains me that I have so many ideas at times, so many creative choices that I am paralysed to begin work on any. At times I envision whole industries in my head, sometimes I even go as far as to begin buying the tools and materials to make a start.

My husband calls me a potterer, I flit from project to project. Eventually I complete them but at times I am frustrated with myself for being unable to devote my attention to just one project at a time.

As an example, at the moment I am 15000 words into writing a novel and I have two incomplete paintings waiting for my attention.

I have also been experimenting with resin and stamped metal jewellery making and have a box of resin items in various states of completion.

I have copper and brass metal sheet and a jewellers saw, purchased a video download on making cold connections for metal work, bought lots of found objects at markets like vintage keys and radio valves to incorporate in jewellery making. I read up on patinas for copper and brass by natural means.

I signed up for Art house co-ops million little photos and have been assigned the theme “Digital Life” so I have a disposable camera waiting for photos to take.I also bought an encaustic kit a couple of years ago, a pinhole camera kit, tools for linocutting plus books on linocutting methods!!!!

And ever since the Yelow pages telephone directory arrived on my doorstep a couple of days ago I have been having ideas pop into my head for creative recyling into art / jewellery. Today’s idea: resin bangles with shredded pages in the centre. Would need to make a resin bangle mould – which I already thought of previously (but haven’t done yet- I have casting material plus a blank wooden bangle to cast from).

I want to try all these things yet the house is in dire need of a spring clean and the floor needs to be mopped.

Muses, stop assailing me, what do I start first? I am in creative overload and need to start knocking some projects on the head. At least we have 5 days in a row off over Easter. . . . .
