Minneapolis Stone Arch Bridge
The Stone Arch Bridge defines Minneapolis’ skyline. Railroad baron James J. Hill built the bridge in 1883 to allow for increased movement of people and goods across the Mississippi River. The Stone Arch Bridge spans St. Anthony Falls, and served as a working railroad bridge until 1965.
Shot taken from the north side of the Mississippi river.

What a great shot. I love the light under the bridge and the black along the side and the tall buildings peeking over the top. Beautiful image.

Love the golden light and contrasting shadows along with the repetitive shapes.

I have read you critique please, so here I go, I would agree the lights above the bridge are slightly too bright, but it’s so hard to get the exposure right in these situations. If it is a lengthy time exposure you can very carefully use a piece of card to cover the brighter parts, but it is difficult to get it right, but with digital, you don’t get it right try again. I believe on photoshop you can use three different exposures and intergrate them, but I don’t know how to do that.

An excellent image – I like the the warm texture of the brick work set against the black. The lead in takes your eye right into the picture, up to the yellow building and then back again. Well done!

Thank you for your comments. This is one of my favorite shots. I don’t know if you are in the states, but this bridge is about a 1/2 mile up stream from the bridge that collapsed in downtown Minneapolis last August. I see it when ever I walk down to the river at lunch. It is a magnificent structure.

I really like this shot Craig. I like the whole thing, my eye goes from the main perspective, which by itself would be a fantastic shot but the added dimension of that amazing lighted building makes you feel like you are crossing this magical bridge to the magical kingdom, wonderful
