In the world of video game based theft, there is one question that always keeps being asked by many detectives:

“Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?”

This elusive criminal has evaded capture for nearly 30 years, and just recently started causing trouble on Facebook.

With the logo of VILE I posted, I wanted to post it’s counterpart, the agency everyone signs up for when they play any Carmen Sandiego game: ACME Detective Agency. However, there were a number of ways this could have gone. I could have made a modern take, especially with the progression of technology and the fact that Carmen also travels in time. I could have gone the child friendly route, hearkening back to the classic game shows based on the video games. But truthfully, I wanted to evoke the essence of Dick Tracy, Mike Hammer, and Sam Spade, so I decided to go retro with this design, even including a fedora. I chose a font that looked like it would appear on a door back in the 30’s and 40’s, and the rest fell into place. Mind you, it’s still ACME, but in the end the search for Carmen is a detective story – your story.

And to evoke that era, I chose colors that evoked that time – greys and blacks – straight out of film noir. I hope you enjoy the design, and purchase a shirt. That and keep at it. One day, you might just catch that elusive Carmen Sandiego.

Chris is a roguishly handsome and seemingly well-dressed defender of truth and justice that just happens to be a freelance web and graphic designer.
