My father and I never had a great understanding of one another. We have lead very different lives. Only recently I have begun to question myself as to who he was before Alzheimer’s. What i keep coming back to at this point in time is that he was a staunch Christian, with unshakeable faith and whom for many years each week would go and be a part of a healing group for the Church of England in the city. He tried to tell me about it but I wasnt anywhere near understanding what that was all about. He said they called it ‘laying on of hands’. I can now see how it fits in our journey together.
I have been working on this image since January. It made sense to me this week, to dedicate it to him and his weird way of teaching me things.
“Healing” by touching a person with the hands or palms. According to its theory, a healthy person has “vital energy” to spare, which is transmittable into sick persons. Contact healing is at least 15,000 years old. Usually, the “healer” places his hands, palms down, on the top of the patient’s head or on the shoulders or waist. Some proponents use the expressions “laying on of hands” and “touch therapy” interchangeably. The former expression may also refer specifically to the act of laying hands on a person’s head to confer a spiritual blessing, as in Christian rites of confirmation and ordination.
