Beaconlit, Woollongong Inner Harbour Lighthouse, Twilight in Spring

I wanted to shoot an Australian east coast lighthouse with a foreground of sand lit by sunset lighting. No mean task considering almost all were westerly facing. Except for the newly restored Woollongong Inner Harbour lighthouse. In addition to facing west, while being on the east coast (due to its inner harbour aspect), it also had the benefit of having the romantic design and size of older lighthouses.

I arrived in the early afternoon having driven down from Sydney and scouted the area for locations. I then pulled up a coffee and waited for the sunset (there are worse things to do on a beautiful weekend afternoon).

Soon enough the golden light fell and the ochre colours of the granite breakwater rocks came into their own, offsetting the beautiful golden sands of the Australian east coast. This was one of the many beautiful scenes that transpired the remainder of that afternoon.

The photo was shot on a Canon 5D Mark II.
