What's old is new again - non-irrigated old vines at Yarra Yerring
Having never visited the Yarra, a discounted flight presented the unmissable opportunity to fly down with a couple of friends to spend the afternoon among the vines.
Having sampled a few of the lesser well known labels we chanced upon the discover that Yarra Yerring was now opening its cellar doors on a more regular basis. We spent a memorable hour tasting the amazing wines on offer, including some spectacular older cellar releases. As we finished the day, we walked among the beautiful old vine non-irrigated vineyard. I was struck at the generosity the winemaker was giving all manner of rogue growth among the furrowed vine beds. What came across was a beautiful sense of rejuvenation, and the ageless strength and timelessness of the old growth vines.
As we arrived back home in Sydney that night with a few precious bottles stowed away, i was left with a lasting memory of a few beautiful hours spent in what must be one of the most glorious wine regions in the country. Thank you Yarra for the beautiful memories, and the priceless wines to remember you with!
