Patrol

Two soldiers from the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team stand guard in the rear hatches of their stryker vehicle while on patrol north of Mosul, Iraq. Many unfamiliar with the geography of Iraq believe it is entirely arid, but as this picture shows, northern Iraq is quite hilly and in the spring, the fields are a vibrant green because of all the precipitation coming off the northern range.

it is sooo green, I like the awesome way you’ve put this together, the two guys in front there look pretty intense. and the symmetry of the road is really visual… goes to show me the middle east isn’t all desert and dust…

great photo.. makes one consider who these guys are feeling, maybe not wanting to be complacent or drop their guard in the relative safety of the flat fields, before they get into the town and the hills

Kath, Lisa, Simon, thank you all so much for checking out my photographs. I love to hear your thoughts. The only reason I post these types of images is to inform, nothing more, so that hopefully one person would get something out of it.

complete contasts that work well together and you are right. Partly due to peoples unfamiliarity with area and partly because the media only let us see the arid areas, some of which (particularly a after 5 years of war) are now just wastelands. A refreshing view

The wide spanse of the photo, as well as the fact that each of the two soldiers is looking as far as he can to the right or left, dramatizes the danger they face and the level of alertness required by those traveling this road. Excellent work.
