Newborn
A nurse at the brand new Bassett Army Community Hospital, makes final measurements of a newborn under the lights of the warming machine in one of the labor and delivery rooms. There has been a post deployment baby boom on the base of Ft. Wainwright, Alaska, after the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team returned from a 16 month deployment last year. Over 120 babies were born in the month of September alone.

Just a wonderful image…the caption really drives home the circle of life. I’m sure these guys saw a lot of death during their deployment-it’s wonderful how they are now surrounded by so much new life.

Jim, I never thought about it that way, it definitely has a happier feel in that light.

my god, this is gorgeous b&w – the capture, angle, use of black – most of all the story. Almost unimaginable that those redeployed from hell’s tea party still have the heart to bring babies into the world.

CBARKER, you captured what society should exist for and making a better life for our next generations – to evolve to ever greterheights of humanity. This is what our founding father’s envisioned.
I fundementally focus on perpetuating our legacy of natural resource base; so our next generation have the “free natural wealth” (Water, fresh air, etc.) given us -our generation to succeed and I dream they – future generations – could have it better!

Helen & Dave thank you so much for your wonderful remarks. I try to do work to inspire others and if I have done so then I have succeeded. Thanks again.

Were you a STRYKER? My brother was part of the original brigade -Ft. Lewis… and for many years. I’m very fond and proud of our Stryker Brigades! This photo is great. You do wonderful work.
Christopher Ba... replied
Thank you Marcella and yes, I was a proud member of a Stryker unit. Sadly I am sitting on the sidelines as my brothers in arms are sent back overseas.

Just had to come back and look again…it’s such a nice photo and reminds me of my own children’s birth. What an awesome thing life is!
Christopher Ba... replied
Indeed. I was luck enough to be home for his birth and what an amazing experience it was. The whole event was so surreal. I am glad I have so nice shots to remind me of how special it was. Thanks for taking another look!
