About the time that Cyclone Larry blew through town, not long after I purchased my brand spanking desktop computer (that came with a complimentary digital camera – a you beaut Hewlett Packard 3mp model), I had the internet connected for the first time.
It’s hard to believe I never used the internet, but this was more than just sending emails to my family or keeping a record of those low resolution photos I was taking at the time. This was an opening to a new world. An internet dating world.
Single for a few years and living in an out of the way place I decided to embark upon a new path. Spiritually, I believe, that if you make a goal and work towards it a little everyday then that goal will be achieved. I decided that it was the right time to find my future partner!
Then the hard work started…Making a profile was difficult. I’d never really thought about who I was and what I wanted. It was also about then that I realised that I was good at avoiding the camera because there were no photos of me anywhere to be found.
Having completed the task of creating the ‘internet me’ I awaited replies. Wow, this was going to be great, finally a way of meeting guys without having to go to pubs or nightclubs!!! This was all ‘above board’, at least that’s what the TV was telling me. I awaited messages…
A couple of weeks went past and the I realised there was more than one internet dating site!!!
Yes, alright, but remember I’d never used the internet….
So was this internet dating stuff about ‘marketing’ yourself, or was it about being in the right place (internet dating site) at the right time?
Working on the latter, I sought out several sites and loaded my profile and pics on them. I’m not entirely sure that I made any long meaningful relationships with anyone, but I’m pretty sure I made pretty good friends with my computer in my search for the right man.
