We balance our time, our existence
Like the ocean
Forever revealing and eroding the earth
As if there’s endlessness to us
Scratching away at layers that don’t belong to us
Holding onto our own hands
And we think it’s enough to steady us
“If we’re lucky we learn”, he said
Bark and broken branches are just that
There’s no weight in which to fall
We watch the sand, opening and closing,
Stretching out in front of us
And the ocean, opening and closing its mouth
“Dive in”, he said, “I dare you”.
