A cardinal gripped a pear tree branch as an early spring snowstorm blew into Kansas City on Saturday, March 28. The wind was blowing hard, and he fought to stay on the branch as it swayed. You can see snow pelleting him. I love his little damp crest of feathers.
Birds often perch a few at a time on this tree, which is outside my kitchen window, before visiting our bird feeder. But when it snows and food is hard to find on the ground, the tree gets very crowded. It’s a bird traffic jam!
