For six weeks every year, beginning on the night of Thanksgiving, hundreds of thousands of Christmas lights are illuminated on Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza, which is America’s first shopping center. The lighting ceremony is a special one for our family, because for the past 30 years, we’ve gotten together for Thanksgiving at a relative’s condo overlooking this scene and watched the lighting ceremony. It’s a magical moment!
On the night in the photograph, a full moon hangs like an ornament above the Plaza’s buildings, which were designed in the style of Seville, Spain.
Left of center in the photograph, you can see the faint “Steeple of Light” beams shining to the heavens from the Community Christian Church, which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright as the “Church of the Future”.
