Wow! Really? I wasn’t sure if it had worked. This is the first flower I’ve done in string. It took me ages and I was a bit disappointed.

  • cathy savels replied

Yes, way! I did go slightly nutty doing this one! LOL! Wasn’t too sure about it, it’s the first flower I’ve done in string.

  • Diana Maus

Stunning! I can’t believe you get the string to behave so well and the depth you get from this one medium is as complex as any oil painting. The colors and composition on this one really are perfect. I love it.

  • cathy savels replied

Thanks so much Diana. I really wasn’t sure about this one but it seems quite a few people like it. It was an experiment really because I’ve not done a flower in string, I tend to use fabric. String is great to work with, very pliable and just seems to add such an amazing dimension. I love it!

One of my favorite flowers, and you captured every part of it in your art. Fantastic piece! And do try another one!

  • cathy savels replied

Thanks, I think I will Andi. It’s funny how you can really struggle with something and then ultimately, it works out better than you ever thought it would.

Cathy it is just super doooper, can you tell us any secrets about using the string???? Do you just paste it on and paint on over???

  • cathy savels replied

Thanks Jenny. I glue the string with a hot glue gun first, then seal it with a product so it doesn’t ‘drink’ all the paint, then paint! The hardest thing about it (apart from painting) is the construction and working out the direction of the string and the order in which it should be glued.

Fantastic use of colour on this and your other work. Gerberas seem to be a popular subject amongst RBers. They are hybrids of Barberton Daisys that grow wild in the area of Barberton, Mpumalanga, South Africa where I have spent some time. In the past (and today for that matter) they were often used for bridal bouquets.

Clermont Ferrand. I recall the French motor racing GP been held there.

  • cathy savels replied

Thanks for the info, very interesting, I had no idea where they came from. I do love the colours this flower comes in. It seems never ending. I have no idea about the motor racing I’m afraid, I’ve only just moved here too. Thanks for your great comment. Take care.
