I am a single stay at home Mom with 2 disabled sons. At this time I am also sharing my 3 bedroom home with my daughter and grandson, who had to move in with us for a little while, and our 2 cats. Can be a bit hectic at times, believe me!
I use my art as a means of keeping my sanity, it soothes me, and I also love the challenge of teaching myself how to use new mediums, often losing myself for hours as I experiment with something different.
In the past 6 years I have taught myself quilting, which quickly transformed into making and selling art quilts, as well as designing and selling quilt patterns. I also taught myself how to paint using acrylics, as well as doing portraits with colored pencils. More recently I have returned to a couple of old loves; photography and writing, often combining all of these mediums into one piece of work. I would love to take photography classes someday, but until then I am teaching myself by reading books and surfing the net to learn how to take the best photos I can with the camera I have using the auto settings on it. Until I get the camera of my dreams, (which changes almost daily!) all my photography is done using a Kodak EasyShare C813 camera and I am pretty happy with what I sometimes manage to accomplish with it. Of course it often takes me 50 shots or more to get the perfect one, but thankfully digital costs nothing.
One of my favorite sayings is:
“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” Pablo Picasso
Now if only it would occasionally help pay a bill or two that would be the icing on the cake!
I belong to Worldwide Women Artists Online, an international collective of women artists showing and selling our work online. For more original art direct from the women who create it, search WWAO.
