Artist Statement
As a young child I always wondered about natural phenomena. Growing up in the city, going out to the country was my favorite pastime. Whether it was on a trip with the girl scouts or 4H club, I was amazed at the wonderful things that I found outdoors. Why does the sky turn pink and blue at dawn and dusk? What causes the brilliance of the autumn leaves? What causes the ocean spray on the shores of the Atlantic?
I did not pursue those dreams of wonderment, but instead opted for a high tech career, first in New England and then out west to California. Over the years, I’d take pictures during my travels, still amazed at the glorious environments everywhere.
My goal is to capture natural and made objects using the subtlety of light and composition. My photos are of moments in time in Earth’s hydrosphere, geosphere and atmosphere. I am drawn to color, light and solitude. Residing in Oakland, California, nature is just a walk away at the lakes, hills and parks and nearby at the oceans, mountains, and forests. I document these natural resources as I bask in their beauty.
