Hanging It Up

Up at Dawn

Asleep at dusk

All to make a living

Seemed at times so unforgiving

Children to feed.. bills to pay

Tools fitting so well in my hands

Pride in the job well done

Sweat on my brow.. aches from the day

Coming home to a hot evening meal

Sitting for a spell in that big cozy chair

Falling asleep before the paper read

Stumbling off to the bed

With some rest..in the night to steal

Day after day.. time ran by me

Face weathered by the sun

Hands calloused and sore

Eyes needing a little help to see

One day came..and I was told

You might be getting too old

I took this is my stride..you see

A time for rest was offered me

I took the gold watch

The years had earned

I walked the steps one last time

I said my good-byes..and tears I held back

I came home..sat down my lady in my lap

Looked at the tools laying on the chair

Staring at the memories there

I picked them up and put them away

I picked up my coffee cup

And said..

I am not stopping..

The endless hours of work

Is all I am hanging up
