Original Photo of “Catherine” by Nathalie Chaput

“The Girl From Montreal”

I am an artist from the North Coast of NSW, utilizing my Graphic Design skills to generate thought processes in Adobe Photoshop. I then translate my designs onto canvas using mixed media, ie acrylic, ink, pastel, gold leaf etc. I also work intuitively with colour straight onto the canvas letting the flow of paint dictate the composition. I can relate to the Bowerbird, as I am drawn to blues and turquoises, collecting my treasures from the artists universe to produce my work.

Beautiful finished cate! It has been great watching your progress!

  • Thanks Dianne it’s a bit nerve wracking putting yourself out there. I’m not too happy with the photo will try and do one in the daylight tomorrow.

Great work Cate. I love it!!

  • Nathalie you have an amaizingly beautiful daughter. Her skin is like porceline like an angel. When I sprayed fixative it made the pastel all motley. Unfortunately you have to spray pastels that is the nature of the medium. The original does look better and not so grainy. Thank you so very much for allowing me to translate your photo.

Cate, what an impressive and beautiful painting. You’ve capture Nathalie’s daughter’s likeness and the spirit of the original photograph. I’m so happy for your accomplishment. GORGEOUS WORK.

  • Thank you so very much Frannie. It was a difficult choice but I really think it’s necessary as an artist to push yourself. I’m fairly happy with the result although the original does look better, the colour in the eyes is more intense and it is overall less speckley, all the photo’s I’ve taken just aren’t getting that intensity and pick up all the speckles and magnify them, I just can’t seem to capture it correctly.
