Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis

Acrylic painting developed from analytical moment (its an upside down version of the original). This painting was developed from a series of drawings of a stool that was wrapped in paper and tied with string. Many drawings of the original stool, many drawings of the wrapped stool and lots of processing. I called this work Metamorphosis as it reminded me of the journey the caterpillar takes turning into the moth or butterfly and the many hazards it faces. The many layers and complexities of such an amazing journey.

ah, finally i get to view the masterpiece…
i’ve been waiting for this for a long long time now….and it was worth the wait,
i love how you’ve used cool colours, the greens to emphasize the metamorphisis that occures primarily in nature, which is guess is symbolised by the green, did you do that deliberately I wonder or just instinctively …... i also love to hear about the process and how indeed this painting developed from such an unusual concept of constraining a chair in a piece of paper and sketching it from many different angles…i love how from something so static you envisioned a lifeform, and not only a lifeform, but a changing one….and can imagine how the stool may symbolise the creature inside the cocoon…..and the struggle it must have had to push the paper aside, or perhaps it had to eat it’s way through….and there on the other side, having unwrapped it’s fetters…is a whole new world, a brand new day….which is in fact the gift we each are given as our eyes open each morning….a new chance, a new slate upon which to write …. i love it Cate…!!!

You are in my mind lol…... Thanks Karin. Yes the subconcious is amazing ground, scary but amazing. I’m glad you understand and appreciate the journey, and I guess the fact that I was able to relate to this change so well, because there is a huge one taking place in my growth and developement as an artist.

Thank you Jenny … yes it was some journey I nearly gave up a few times and thought ahhhhh….. I just can’t do this, but I pushed past my fear and that is what it is about for me ,,,continuing to push past the boundaries breaking through the safety net and letting others see into your world.

wow … i looked at this piece a moment and i thought a few things… first it had a lot of lines i have seen in graffiti… so it reminded me of a close up of that .. but i read ur description and … i didnt see the same animal … in fact… i saw a TURTLE !!! the center of the image being the top of the shell with its head poking out to the left

    :) brilliant work

  • CateTownsend

    CateTownsend

lol… If you turn it on its side you can see a moth, but then again you keep looking and you see all sorts of things. I never saw a turtle though. It reminded me of graffiti as well. Thanks Shoaib I really appreciate your positive feedback.
