Dark Angel
Quick line drawing with ink using a fairly big brush on paper. I am not sure of the type of paper, just the sort they hand out to the class in bulk, so I am guessing not very great quality. When I stood back and looked at the finished product I noticed she had wings. The model particularly liked this drawing, and that always means so much to me.

i love it in the frame Cate…love the fast wide brush stropes and movement in the work…
also love the wings..model has a lovely stance, which makes for beautiful elongated lines!!
wonderful art!
CateTownsend replied
Thanks Karin this was a really quick drawing but I really liked it. I cut it down to put up as I need to fix up the right side will put the full image up when its fixed. When your working with black ink and a thick brush there is little room for error lol

stropes is a new word i invented!! (i actually meant to say ‘strokes’) lol

This is the way I like my nudes to be drawn; highly energetic, quick, raw, utterly unpredictable kind of style?! Nothing either formal or academic about it-therefore, not following any normal ‘strict’ rules; just being totally ‘loose’; but, instead, each drawing is entirely a world of it’s own-thus, it both makes/breaks it’s own rules.
What I’m saying is it’s rather like thick brush Zen painting; simple, and, straight forwards, and, wholly instinctive; being in that sort of mode It either works/or, doesn’t work; and, here it worked. Warmest congratulations! ;-)
(Frankly, I envy you; because I wish I could get one of mine to work looking like this, too??? We look/we learn; I guess, that’s what being here at RedBubble is for. For some reason, I can’t stop thinking of Franz Kline!)
CateTownsend replied
Thank you Paul I’m so glad you like this. The model really liked this one too. Turned out she was an art teacher. It really helps when the model has such an amazing body. This was totally new ground for me and man did I make a mess, you could tell where my easel was in the classroom. I use my whole body when I’m painting, it kinda becomes part of me and me part of it.

Nice work Cate…. it is really a work that you have to stand back from to get the full effect.

Benjamin Ruskin
As Tony Greig would say…. “Mawwwvellous!!”
CateTownsend replied
Thanks Benjamin, life drawing is one of my favourite things to do. This was a whole new ball game, using the ink and a thick brush with really fast strokes. I’m happy with the result and can’t wait to do more experimenting!
