I’d like you to indulge me a little whilst you look at this image of Baker Street Station as it will help you to see it though my eyes. To help you do this I found a video of Gerry Rafferty playing his 70’s hit ‘Baker Street’
I can never seem to walk through this station without the sound of that amazing sax running through my head, and since I spent 20 years of my life traveling through this station, every day, on my way to work, the words of the song seem so very relevant for me; this is an image of my home.
Baker Street is also the home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s world famous detective Sherlock Holmes. You will find tourists wandering about this part of London looking for the place he was supposed to live… almost as if he were haunting it. I think perhaps that when I’m gone we will probably both end up wandering these platforms, me and a man that never existed – how fitting.
