Trevor Patterson IPA

148 views and only 10 comments

In the last 12 hours I’ve had 148 people view my work, but only 10 of them made any comments (thank you to those 10) I’ve had 3 people kindly add me to their watchlists (thank you to those 3) 2 of my pieces of work have been favorited (again, many thanks) and 0 sales (ho hum)
so thats 10% of the people who looked at my work bothered to make any kind of comment… what I wanna know is what’s wrong with the other 90% of you bubblers? lol
Ok i’m just ranting… It’s been a bad day when nothing seems to have gone right for me, so I need to take it out on somebody. so you 90%ers brush up you keyboard skills and get typing! (Please!!!)

Oh my friend TREVOR , I have to agree with you on all counts !! That goes the same here ! The clicks on my portfolio is over 20,000 in 6 wks. The comments , give me a break !! The sales are even worse ! Yes I agree , the people that comment and favor ... GOD BLESS THEM ALL ! .... My sales are more on the home front by large !! My sales on REDBUBBLE are more my buying my own as stock to sell retail. ... AGAIN GOD BLESS THE FEW THAT HAVE BOUGHT MY CARDS / T-SHIRTS ON RB. .... BUT BOTTOM LINE IS I AM SPENDING MORE ON RB THAN I AM EARNING !! WHAT DO WE DO TO SELL ON HERE ?????

IMO, RB needs to be promoted more in other sites and media, and made more open to the casual visitor. I wonder how many CV’s have been turned off by having to join RB, who just to make a casual comment or buy something ???

I hope I put that right.

Thank you Nancy, I like yours a lot too. :o)

Maddy, It’s been quiet for me ever since the posting deadline hit before Christmas, I was doing quite well up until then. I’ve been thinking about starting a group dedicated to sales where people could put work that sold into the gallery for the rest of us to look at so that we might learn from each other about what does and what doesn’t sell, have a look at my journal entry
‘Random Logic’ and see what you think.

You make an excellent point Richard, It would be nice if we could get some stats out of RB on the subject.

Trevor,I try to comment on all my favorites new work, but sometimes when I’m gone a few days I get overwhelmed. I notice the same on my work. I have close to 2500 views so far and I average about 5 comments for every 20 views, but the ones that do have been on my favorite list for a long time. Your work is great, I don’t just favorite everyone! Keep up the good work!

I have mixed feelings about this, and fully understand your frustration, Trevor. There’s a lot of work involved and we’re all hoping to sell. I figure first of all a stranger to RB looking to buy sees the home page work and goes from there. The rest of the artists, unless known by name, are not likely to be found, except maybe via subject matter links. I’ve put RB links on my website for my work, trying to spread the word with no identifiable results yet. However, having said all that, there’s the CHANCE that somewhere between ten and ten million people who never heard of me can see my work now. Hopefully, name & content recognition growing. I looked at many other similar sites, and a lot are juvenile & flippant in comparison. The standards here are pretty high, even if that’s accidental with whom’s attracted to RB. If you’ve ever done gallery hunting, it’s a gruesome process, the owners are frequently theives, your work can get tucked in a corner, frankly after a lot of gallery experiences I don’t want it ever again. Shows rarely sell out, and are a huge bother to set up and work is often damaged, to say nothing of the cost of framing. I shopped around for renting my own gallery, which is a high monthly expense and staffing, and very costly stocking of t shirts or reproductions, with no guarantee of steady sales. On this site, as with others, I have a free gallery I can send people to, my images translated to inexpensive copies at zero cost to me. Maybe it’s a generational difference, but I can’t believe my luck. The fact that I can circumvent a store and post office and financial risk, and still offer my work for view and sale is beyond what any artist could have imagined five years ago. So I consider all this a pipe dream, and sales are gravy. There are hundreds of additional places to market, that all take work and time, but they’re there. Getting noticed has been the hardest part since the beginning of time & it’s constantly reinvented. The comments may not be the plenty you desire, but believe me, most artists work in solitude and I am taking all comments as absolute divine encouragement. By the number of viewers to particular works I also get to see what appeals to the public, and this indeed sophisticated viewing public here. There are probably better ways to do any of this, I hate to hear you discouraged. Best sellers happen in a lifetime to us all, and it will happen to you. It doesn’t really mean a thing about your life and work and where your own heart leads you. It’s a plus, too, that you can post your frustration here and be heard, and make a difference.
Off I go to comment on your work!

now trevor..you have to count in how many times YOU have looked at the shot as well, each time we go to see a new comment..it adds a view, kinda wish RB would fix that, so we’d get a more accurate count on our views ;-)

I try not to take too much notice of statistics anymore – I have just culled my portfolio and therefore lost over half my views and a lot of favouritings…. no sales at all anyway….
I do look at all the new work on my activity page everyday and the first month or so I was on RB commented on a lot and favourited a lot. Then one day thought I would just have a look at my favourites and couldn’t believe how many were there…. So had a sort out and kept the ones I really liked. It is amazing how you can like something one week and hate it the next, especially with abstracts.
So basically what I am saying is that I view everything, comment on those I like and favourite those I really like. And in a month or so will get around to buying a few of my favourites – at the moment just don’t have the spare cash (incapacity benefit doesn’t go far).

Hi Karen, I understand completely about your financial circumstances… Pretty close to my own. and I know that you do frequently comment on my work (which I very much appreciate) I’m kind of feeling a bit guilty for winging about it all now! I get the feeling that were all in the same boat!
