Great shot, love the mono treatment.
Matt M. replied 22 days ago
Thank you Simone. You have an amazing gallery, it’s almost intimidating for a beginner to take a shot at landscape/waterscape photography after seeing these pictures :)

Thanks so much Matt for your kind words, but don’t be intimidated by my work mate, you don’t get to see the ones I don’t put up ;)) and besides we all have to start somewhere, the main thing is to have fun doing it :))

Hey Matt,, congrats ,, this is lovely!
Can you explain mixed channels,, I have downloaded GIMP.. but really not sure how to begin to use it!
thanks bunches!!!
Matt M. replied 18 days ago
Thank you Linda. Im no pro at photoshop and I have used gimp once, but I will try to explain the concept, based on ps, but hopefully this will be of some use to you. The image we see consists of 3 light channels – blue, red and green. Ps allows to view each of the channels alone as a b/w image. You can switch between them to find the one that you think would suit your idea the best. What you do next is choose the layer – channel mixer (this is a rough translation, so the names might be different in the software), pick the channel that as a base and check monochrome tones. After that you can tweak all three channels until you’re happy with the effect. I find this technique very simple and intuitive, but also quite powerful, especially combined with levels layer (changing brightness of selected areas).
Hope this is even a bit helpful. If you need anything else you can bubblemail me, I’ll do my best to help.
