I'm Spending Christmas In Heaven - Image and Poem by

The holidays bring back lots of memories. This piece was inspired by the loss of a dear person a few years ago, right before Christmas. Image was created with a photo of an old vehicle with my Canon D40. The shadows, wreath and man are from other photos I took. Additional maniputlation used to complete the scene.

I’m Spending Christmas In Heaven
Written by Carol Smith 12-18-09

I’m spending Christmas in Heaven this year
I’m packed and on my way
Don’t be sad and don’t feel bad
Please wipe away that tear.

Be joyful and be happy
For I will surely be
I’ll be spending Christmas in Heaven this year
I have finally been set free

I have had a long earthly life, but now it’s time to go
Goodbye my friend, you understand, I know

I see the light before me, shining oh so bright
I’m spending Christmas in heaven this year
It’s almost in my sight

I hear beautiful Christmas songs, It must be angels singing
I’m spending Christmas in Heaven this year
I can’t explain the joy it’s bringing.

This is so beautiful Carol, and you did write it yourself!

  • Thanks a million, Ellen. Sometimes I do write a bit of poetry. It sort of comes in spurts. Sometimes an image will just inspire me and away I go.

Oh Carol this is heartbreakingly beautiful! I’m sure a lot of us can appreciate the beauty of this and the poem. So beautifully displayed, the head down, sad, and so bittersweet but comes straight from the heart. I love it! xx

  • Thank you so much Maxy for your heartwarming comments. It’s just so hard to lose someone at Christmastime and I just felt compelled to do this piece. It’s so hard to say goodbye.

I absolutely love this Carol!! – very Saturday Night Evening Post – I lost my mom at Christmas so this has such a special meaning to me – inst fave!!!

  • You know, you are right, Kate. I just visited Rockwell’s museum on my New England Tour and it does have that sort of look. When I was a kid, I loved the Saturday Evening Post and couldn’t wait to see the images on the cover. I’m so sorry about your Mom and to lose her at Christmastime must have been heartbreaking. I just hope this image is projecting peace and love and not too many sad memories. I always think of my loved ones who have gone on at Christmastime and I miss them so much but I know that they have gone to better place. That is what I was trying to project in this image.
