I love to look back at the way life was when things were simpler.

When fun meant family picnics with home fried chicken, potato salad and gunnysack races.

When children played with Tonka trucks and teddy bears.

When milk was delivered by the milkman.

When cartoons were Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.

When Grandma made real homemade biscuits and bread that you could smell when you walked in the door.

When Grandpa worked in the fields, kept the old car running and sat on the front porch drinking iced tea.

When the family all gathered for Sunday dinner and talked and laughed together.

The American apple pie has changed. Now we buy them frozen.

I long for a homemade apple pie.

Very nostalgic Carol, wouldn’t it be great to go back to that, especially the part about the milk being delivered, they were great times and so much more simple – wonderful shot Carol!!

  • Thanks, Kate. Those times were great, that’s for sure but I don’t miss all the door to door salesmen. lol.

a beautiful image that conveys the words so perfectly. I love that everything has a dusty lighting quality as they are in a attic.

  • Thank you for a wonderful comment, John.

Terrific!! I love how you “aged” this photo. The writing adds volumes….very compatible.

  • I’ve been caught having breakfast at Alice’s again. Each image lets me relive the experience. It’ such a unique environment there. I’m glad you like this one, Helen. I really enjoy photographing antiques and old things. I’m so glad you took me there.

Wonderful. Just had to come look. I still do homemade biscuits and muffins and pies; but I’m afraid my dear, old mother has switched to instant potatoes (gross), frozen biscuits, and frozen pillsbury pie dough long ago. The family is all over the country, so those big family Sunday dinners are once a year, and over wine and hot-buttered rum, instead of ice tea.

Love what you wrote and agree that it really adds to the nostalgia of the image.

  • I’m thrilled you enjoyed the piece and the writing. I love bringing back those special memories tucked away in our minds. Maybe I should get that homemade pie recipe from you! lol.
