King Of The Road And I'm Not Arguing About It!
We were driving down this road near Challis,
Idaho and had to stop for these large, healthy
bighorn sheep. I got out of the car, but stayed
close to it in order to capture this image.
There was a skunk in the middle of the road
that had been hit by a car and this large
bighorn had gone out to check on it. It felt
sad to me, like he had lost a friend. He stood
out there for quite some time and we just
waited for him to move. (This photo doesn’t
show the skunk but I have one that does.)
It’s too bad that so many animals are struck
by cars.

Wow…..............wonderful shot!!! Poor skunk!!
CarolM replied
I was going to post the photo with the skunk but didn’t have it handy. It is so, so sad.
Susan Bergstrom
yes and you have to give wide berth sometimes as they will make contact with the front or the door of your car..been there done that!!!
CarolM replied
You are so right. They feel threatened if they are cornered. I know that from experience. It’s best to keep the distance and use the long lens. I bet your experience scared you.
Marion Chapman
great shot – i almost imagine i was there with you.
CarolM replied
What a great comment, Marion. Too bad you werent’ there. It was a great experience.
Kate Adams
Incredible Carol!!! I’m glad you stopped to take the shot because you have shown him off so beautifully. Do they roam freely in Idaho?
CarolM replied
We saw a lot of them in this area. The most I have seen anywhere. I think there were about 5 of them here and a few miles down the road there was a group of about 10 but as you know, wild animals are not always close enough for a photograph or they are not doing something interesting.

What a great shot! The light is perfect and you have captured this guy with very nice detail. I love the ribbon of road that winds off over the hill, too.
CarolM replied
I liked the road too. There wasn’t another car or a soul around. It was a great experience. Thanks Patricia for the fine comments.

I ALWAYS hate to see animals struck by cars. It is such a waste of a life. I don’t believe in the “they are only animals, not humans” stuff. Their lives are important, too. Beautiful shot.
CarolM replied
I agree!!!!! The photo that I have of the dead skunk and the bighorn is heartbreaking.
