Crowns Botallack Mine, Cornwall

These photogenic mine remains are near St Just in west Cornwall. Tin, copper and other minerals have been mined here for hundreds of years. At one time thousands of men, women and children were employed in the industry. The shafts of Crowns extended some 3 miles out under the ocean bed. For anyone interested in industrial archaeology there is a wealth of remains here including one of the best preserved arsenic works.

Fantastic. Do I spot some exposure blending?

  • Caroline Bland replied

Hi Christopher – yes it’s a blend of several exposures which was a bit of a challenge with gale force winds buffeting the tripod!
