Nativity Crib in the entrance of the Cathedral of Rio. This contemporary Nativity depicts Mary and Joseph and the Baby Jesus in 3-d figures made of gold textiles using crochet and basketry techniques. The family are represented as Brazilian workers.
The Roman Catholic Cathedral of Saint Sebastian, Sao Sebastiano, is dedicated to Saint Sebastian, the patron saint of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The current church was built between 1964 & 1979 & replaced a series of old churches that had served as cathedrals since 1676. Conical in form and with a 96 metres internal diameter and an overall height of 75 metres, it has a standing room capacity of over 20,000.
