Walking under the edge of a huge Tabular Iceberg stuck in the fast ice in the Ross Sea at Cape Hallett, Antarctica and looking out over the fast ice and pressure ridges.
This huge tabular iceberg is stuck in the fast ice. When high summer arrives the fast ice will melt releasing the iceberg. It may travel for 3 years around the Antarctic continent before it is melted. These icebergs are typically about the height of a 10 story building protruding above the surface and about 6-7 times that height below the surface.
Although massive effects of Global Warming have not yet hit the Antarctic, there are signs with more and larger icebergs calving from the ice shelves.
