The breakers crash into the snow covered volcanic rocks which line the shores of Hudson Bay at Churchill, Manitoba, Canada.
Broken ice pieces line the shore having been tumbled onto the beach by the waves.
Three weeks prior to this the Bay had frozen over and the polar bears headed for the ice to hunt seals. But 10 days before this image the cold snap ceased and the ice broke up forcing the polar bears to retrun to shore where they had to wait for a further 6 weeks for a freeze suitable for hunting on the ice.
