Portrait of Hirwa, the Silverback of the Hirwa Group. This is a small group of about 15 individuals with one Silver Back, mature male. The Silver Back leads the family through the jungle & has mating rights with all the females. Kinigi, Volcanoes National Park, also known as Virunga National Park, Rwanda, East Africa, Visitors are allowed one hour with the Gorillas under very strict supervision. As the animals move through the jungle the guides, rangers and visitors follow. Mountain Gorillas, Gorilla gorilla beringei, are highly endangered with around 700 left in the wild, spread between Rwanda, Congo and Uganda.
Oh my…he has such an intense and thoughtful look about him! Can’t tell if he’s eyeballing one of the ladies or considering the vintage of the grass in his hand. =) Beautiful capture, and congrats on your feature! =)
