Willow Ptarmigans, Lagopus lagopus, in their winter plumage. Wapusk National Park, Churchill, Hudson Bay, Manitoba, Canada, North America. These are gamebirds that are part of the grouse family and breed mostly in the forests and tundra regions.
These birds cleverly match their environment – in the summer speckled browns to match the snowless tundra and in the winter all white for almost total camouflage.
