Detailed closeup portrait of Sturt’s Desert Pea, Swainsona formosa. Outback South Australia. A hardy dry land plant with enormous black and red pea flowers. In good seasons the plants will grow to be 5 metres or more in diameter. The flower is the floral emblem of South Australia.
The plant is especially hard to grow in domestic situations and only flowers in the wild when conditions are absolutely perfect.
