Artist's Description

Dikdik, Madoqua kirkii, or Kirks Dik Dik, Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, East Africa. Dikdiks form monogamous pairs in fixed territories of low bush along dry, rocky stream beds. They mark their territory with dung deposits & with secretions from the preorbital gland. Dikdiks live in various habitats with good cover and plentiful browse. At maturity they weigh up to 12bls & are 14in at the shoulder. They are one of the smallest antelopes. Colour differences occur due to their environment.
