Rock Hyrax or Rock Dassie, Procavia capensis, of the order Hyracoidea. (Featured in AFRIKAANS IS MY MOEDERTAAL / AFRIKAANS IS MY MOTHER TONGUE.) Although it looks like it is related to the guinea pig, weighing in at about 4 kilograms, It’s closest relative is the elephant. Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, East Africa. The rock hyrax is found across Africa and the Middle East, in habitats with rock crevices in which to escape from predators. Hyraxes typically live in groups of 10–80 animals, and forage as a group.
