One of my favourite temples around Angkor Wat in Cambodia – Ta Prohm.
Has been left mostly untouched by the acheologists when rediscovered in 19th century with trees trying to reclain what was rightfully theirs.
The trees are Fig,Banyon and Kapok…..trunks twist among pillars and huge roots spread in between and beneath the stones…..pushing walls and terraces apart….
‘So the temple is held in a strangehold of trees. Stone and wood clasp each other in grim hostility, yet all is silent and still, without any visible movement to indicate their struggle – as if they were wrestlers suddenly petrified, struck motionless in the middle of a fight. The rounds in this battle were not measured by minutes, but by centuries….’ Ankor
Well, you see dear Caroline, I have been there on two separate tripsand was most likely drawn to the same trees…..it was my favourite other than the main Angkor Wat. I really think we need to have a RB meet there….you guys I guarantee it would never ever leave!!!!!!!!!!!!
this certainly is an incredible spot and scene – One that I hope to get to and experience myself one day.The forest really does appear to be reclaiming it all.
