CAMERA: NIKON D90
LENS: NIKKOR AF-S 70-300mm VR @ 300mm

North American river otter taken on the Georgia Strait foreshore near Gibsons, on the Sunshine Coast, British Columbia, Canada.

Wild river otters are understandably much more wary and alert than those found in zoos and game parks, particularly when alone, as here.

Not sure why he (she?) chose such a small rock to haul himself up on. It was also the closest to me, which I found interesting, as he was well aware I was there.

I’m a retired stationary engineer who lives on British Columbia’s scenic Sunshine Coast, which although on the mainland, can only be accessed by water or air – just the way we Coasters like it!

Wildlife and nature photography is my hobby and passion. My primary camera is a Nikon D90 and most of these photos are taken with a Nikkor AF-S 70-300mm VR lens.

I appreciate and try to answer all sincere comments.

Lovely capture Carl, wish we had these adorable creatures here.

  • Thanks Andrea. They are sweet, aren’t they? They can more than take care of themselves though with their razor-sharp teeth!

What a fantastic capture, Carl!! It looks to me like he’s a ham and was quite simply, posing!! :o)
    Excellent work, Carl!!

  • Thank you very much Deb! I’d like to think so but I think something caught his attention. They are indeed very playful animals, and intelligent too.
