None of these feral butterfly bush (Buddleja davidii) florets could have more than a drop of nectar in them, but fortunately for this rufous hummingbird, there are plenty to sip on.

Taken at the top of the beach near Gibsons, on the Sunshine Coast, British Columbia, Canada.

I’m a retired stationary engineer who lives on British Columbia’s scenic Sunshine Coast, which although on the mainland, can only be accessed by water or air – just the way we Coasters like it!

Wildlife and nature photography is my hobby and passion. My primary camera is a Nikon D90 and most of these photos are taken with a Nikkor AF-S 70-300mm VR lens.

I appreciate and try to answer all sincere comments.

This is a beautiful image, you have captured the delicacy of both the flower and the bird – Cliff

  • Thank you very much Cliff. I just take whatever is presented to me, as it were. Butterfly bushes are considered an “invasive species”, but they’re a darn sight prettier than dandelions. Hummingbirds are of course little gems.
