Rufous hummingbird with her back fluorescing green and aqua. Rufous and Anna’s hummingbirds are as far as I know the only two hummingbird species found on the southern British Columbia coast. Occasionally they will over-winter, in which case they are almost entirely dependent on feeders – not a very good situation, as they need to obtain protein from small flying insects.
Photographed near Gibsons, on the Sunshine Coast, British Columbia, Canada.

A beautiful walela! Walela means hummingbird in the Cherokee Indian language. Congratulations!
Thank you very much. Walela sounds so much nicer than hummingbird, doesn’t it?
