LENS: NIKKOR AF-S 70-300mm VR @ 300mm

With evening descending, my daughter and grandson spotted this barred owl at a local pond and raced back to tell me. Fortunately it was still there when I arrived with my camera. It’s effortlessly looking back over its shoulder, showing the swivel neck for which owls are noted.

Taken near Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada.

I’m a retired stationary engineer who lives on British Columbia’s scenic Sunshine Coast, which although on the mainland, can only be accessed by water or air – just the way we Coasters like it!

Wildlife and nature photography is my hobby and passion. My primary camera is a Nikon D90 and most of these photos are taken with a Nikkor AF-S 70-300mm VR lens.

I appreciate and try to answer all sincere comments.

If you believe you will capture one in flight then an opportunity will appear at the right moment, I look forward to seeing the results.

  • Thanks for the encouragement :)

The photo turned out beautifully, I am so glad he was still there, love the rich brown colour, I am not used to seeing them in the day!

  • Let’s hope that’s not the last we see of it. I’ve seen both bared owls and great horned owls during the day, and they’re known to occasionally hunt during daylight hours. Both seem to be quite “tame”.
