This juvenile bald eagle and its sibling were taking their first tentative flights about a week before I took this shot (summer 2010), but already they’re both proficient fliers. Leaning to hunt will take a little longer – actually a lot longer!
Taken near Gibsons, British Columbia, Canada.

Wow Carl, you certainly get some wonderful captures. This is stunning.
Thanks Andrea. The father has already left and the mother will soon leave too, so I don’t expect to be taking too many more eagle pictures until (our) autumn at the earliest. Maybe some other birds…
You will be sad I am sure, but then you have next year to look forward to and perhaps a new batch of young ones. Your photos are excellent.
You are too kind, Andrea. Yes, I’m certainly hoping they’ll return for a third time next year. Meanwhile, I’ll keep an eye on your site with your wonderfully exotic NZ birds!
Thank you Carl, I look forward to seeing what you have next.
