Many see the red ribbon as a fight against AIDS and are unaware of the different meanings.

Before I made this shirt, I did a little bit of research on the ribbon. Among the list of all of the things that simple yet bold ribbon stood for, there was one meaning that was missing.. and that was the only one I had really ever known..

When I was a teen, the red ribbon was a reminder of an underground support group of anorexics. Yes, it was a support group. Although some were more harmful than good, these support groups reminded people with an eating disorder of what could happen to your body and your health. We were there to talk about our mess-ups, and our many depressive states. These sites were a place of comfort and acceptance where the real world would ignore and stare at our imperfections.

I have made lasting friends through these groups, and it definately helped me out of a rut I thought I would never get out of. I felt it was important to share that. So I made this t-shirt.
