No Shame by Caroline Fournier

No Shame by

There are of course causes near and dear to my heart and this is one of them. This is the image that kept popping up in my head when I thought of AIDS. I was in high school in the 80’s and back then you were taught that AIDS was a homosexual disease and was barely glanced over in class. You closed your eyes to it; you did not talk about it. It was only a few short years later that it came to the forefront of our consciousness.

I have personally been touched by AIDS (as we will all most likely be) through the lost of a friend and co-worker, Christopher, at the age of 36.

A fantastic image with such an important message.
I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend…. this is a beautiful, moving tribute to him. You should be very proud….

  • Thanks Rosemary. People cross your path for reasons that you only realize much later on … definitely learned that life is short and to soak in every single minute of it from him. It’s funny because I did not know him for a very long time but probably one of the people that I still think about on a daily basis.

so insightful Caroline. I too am unfortunately going to someday be touched by this awful desease in that same way. My best friend is living with it and every year that passes is most treasured because we don’t know how many more we will have. Well captured, my friend.

  • Thank you Cherish and I am sorry to hear that you will face that situation also. I definitely learned to live each moment to its fullest through Christopher so enjoy every single moment with this special person in your life.

Caroline you have done it again with such a powerful photo. Photography perfection when a photo brings tears to my eyes. This is such a wonderful photo and is such an important cause. Thank you Caroline for once again showing everyone the importance of so many causes in this world.

  • Thank you so very much Kelly. I was a little reluctant to put it up but only because it is my face after all. Then I remembered that you put up your own self-portrait so why the heck not!! I’m actually quite proud of this photo and so touched by the reaction and comments I have received. My photography teacher was always telling us to make a point in our photos and at the time didn’t see how I would do that …. I guess when it’s something you really care about that the ideas do come to you. Thanks as always for your amazing support.
