Charlotte
This is not something that I normally do but this is a photo of my cat, Charlotte. I rarely take photos of her because she always has that tortured look on her face whenever I subject her to it. I have had her for over thirteen years (I rescued her when she was three weeks old) and it is amazing how little photos I actually have of her. So once in a while I’ll do something like this. This was shot in my kitchen right in front of my patio door. It was quite sunny and so she is essentially backlit. The only post processing done is that I made a slight levels adjustment to increase the contrast and give it even more of a high key look to it.
Also available on Zazzle as business card, ideal for veterinary clinics or cat hospitals

I’m not normally a fan of pet photos, but this one is special. You have captured her character so well, and created a superb image.
Caroline Fournier replied
I’m not a fan of them either to be honest. Probably why I actually don’t have too many of her to start with. Glad you like it.

Wonderful work Caroline, and I know how hard it is to photograph a cat!! Our girl is not impressed by the camera at all :) I’m glad you took the opportunity to get a shot of her.
Caroline Fournier replied
Thanks Ursula. Actually I can just tell from her expression that she is not a happy kitten but I am so pleased with this shot in the end.

LOVE IT! I have a few of grey kitties, too. Not sure if they’re on here though. Just love every tiny detail, the profile, and white background. I know that tortured look you’re talking about. I was bedridden for some time and Tsavo (my tabby) became one of my muses. Thanks for sharing. I’m inspired to add some of mine and determined to find a way to shoot him, without “shooting” him! – Amy
Caroline Fournier replied
Thank you Amy … glad you like it. I am actually quite proud of this photo because it definitely captures her.

Charlotte looks just like a cat I had for almost 18 years and I loved her to bits … as a matter of fact I extended her life by a year and a half with thrice-weekly treatments that I do not believe I would subject a beloved cat to again, but she was a trouper about it. I am so glad you made the effort to take your little girl’s picture, and this is beautivully done.
Caroline Fournier replied
Thank you so much Ginny. I rescued Charlotte when she was only three weeks old, did not weigh a pound and was not weened. I bottle fed her and now 13 years later she is one big happy healthy ball of fur! But it strikes me once in a while that she is getting on in years and definitely slowed down from the hyped up kitten that she was and really no photos of her so hence this little photo session!!
Ginny Schmidt
All of my cats have been so photographed that they were/are probably just resigned to it. They are just so preety. I have often thought that pet portrait photography would be something I’d like to do. I have done it for friends, but not professionally. Your portfolio has such a professional flair to it, your work looks very commercial (which I don’t mean in a bad way).
Caroline Fournier replied
Wow thank you so very much Ginny. What a beautiful compliment. I am still so new at this that I am floored by the positive feedback that I have gotten. I am an accountant after all … it freaks my friends out that I have this artistic side. Don’t know where it comes from!!!
Kaylea
A stunning photo. I love the composition of the photo and also her fur looks so soft because of the lighting.
Caroline Fournier replied
Thank you Kaylea … she’s a little mad too!! She does not like being subjected to photos.
